Ready, Set, Go! Ready, Set, Go! This past September JASoCal partnered with the NASCAR Goodyear Racing & Diversity Program (G.R.A.D.). This partnership represents a great job shadowing experience for students in Southern California. This year’s participants were from Santee High School. The students were not only able to attend the race but were also able to shadow the Crew Chief amongst a number of other activities planned for the day. This phase is one of four that the students will experience. The G.R.A.D. program is a multi-phased platform from which deserving high school students will be exposed to the exciting world of NASCAR racing and all the career opportunities available within. While the initial phases are designed to give a broad overview to a large pool of students, the later phases will provide very specific, first-hand experience to a select number of students that will prepare them for the potential full-time employment within the NASCAR industry. “My favorite part of the day was EVERYTHING! It was great when we had the chance to meet with a crew chief and see what his day is like at the track. Walking through the garage was unbelievable, I was not aware so many things take place to make a race happen.” – Sindy Abrego, Santee High Student.
